Description:

<1917 Real Photo Portrait RPPC Prussian-Made Postcard –Young German Girl with Raven Red Hair - Hand-Colored Sepia Toned – Max Ettlinger & Co., Publisher - Brooklyn, New York Postmark and Norwich CT Address

Hand-colored real photo RPPC sepia-toned used postcard portrait of a raven-haired young German girl.  Captioned on the front with “Congratulations” followed by a rhyming couplet.

Back has handwritten message – probably in Polish - with a US postage stamp, July 5, 1917 Brooklyn, New York postmark, and Norwich CT address.

Published by Max Ettlinger & Co., Ltd. (1901-1916) of New York and London.  Identified on the back as “Ettlinger’s Handcoloured Brown Toned Art Studies No. 500” and “processed in Prussia [Germany]”.

PHOTO NOTE:   Scanning frequently distorts the clarity of the image and the intensity of color. When viewed in person, this real photo card image has greater clarity and color intensity, compared to the more muted "grainy" look of the scanned image.   Slight discolorations and minor defects are also exaggerated in scanned images, and are usually much less noticeable when viewed in person.

CONDITION:   PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY. Matte finished real photo postcard is in fair condition for its age. No tears or folds. Child’s face is clean. Edges show some damage, there are several cracks in the background surface finish that do not involve the central image, and some wear to the girl's left shoulder is visible. The back is medium brown with age-discoloration, and moderately soiled with ink stains and smudges, but both the message and postmark are readable. Corners are slightly rounded. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
