1683 Caleb Pusey “Penn” House, Chester, PA - c1947 Curt Teich C.T. American Art Postcard - Chester, PA Postmark
c1947 postcard captioned “C-25 – The Penn House, Built 1683, Chester, Pa.” The house is actually the Caleb Pusey House, the second oldest English house in Pennsylvania, and the only remaining house where William Penn is known to have visited. It stands on the 100 acres near Chester Creek which Penn granted Pusey, a plantation which the latter named "Landing Ford", located in what is now Upland, near Chester. Since the 1950s, the building and grounds have been owned by the Friends of the Caleb Pusey House, Inc. It has been restored and is operated as a historic house museum.
Stamped and postmarked April 17, 1947, from Chester to an address in Norwich CT.
White border frame, matte finished and colored, “C. T. American Art” Postcard, Number A-7495-N, published by Curt Teich (1893-1974), Chicago Illinois. Distributed by Lynn H. Boyer, Jr., Wildwood NJ. White border finished colored “C. T. American Art” postcard, Number A-7495-N published by Curt Teich (1893-1974), Chicago Illinois. Distributed by Lynn H. Boyer, Jr., Wildwood NJ.
PHOTO NOTE: Matte finished colored lithograph. Scanning frequently distorts the clarity of the image. When viewed in person, the card image usually shows greater clarity and intensity of colors, compared to the more muted "grainy" look of the scanned image. Minute defects are also exaggerated by the scans, and often barely noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY. In very good condition, but not perfect. Light postal cancellation marks visible in the sky above the building. No major tears. Light corner crease, corners are slightly crushed, and border edges show wear. White border shows some light soiling. Back has generalized discoloration, more noticeable around the edges. Message, address and postmark are clearly legible. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
