Description:

Vintage 1908 Purple Violet Heavily EMBOSSED Textured HAND-PAINTED Postcard – Gold Leaf Trim – Best Birthday Wishes Greeting

Standard-sized early 20th C postcard with heavily embossed brilliant hand-colored purple violets surrounded with an ornate picture frame border. The leaves, petals and stems are trimmed in gold leaf, as is the “Best Birthday Wishes” greeting and rectangular inside frame.

No publisher’s name logo printed on the back, but it is most probably American-made. The “P” and “C” of Post Card are printed with exceptionally ornate calligraphy. Message and name of addressee appears to be in Polish. Stamped and postmarked April 16, 1908 from New York City addressed to a Greenpoint, Brooklyn address.

PHOTO NOTE: Scanning frequently distorts the clarity of the image and the intensity of color. When viewed in person, this card image has greater clarity and color intensity, compared to the more muted "grainy" look of the scanned image. Slight discolorations and minor defects are also exaggerated in scanned images, and most are actually much less noticeable when viewed in person.

CONDITION: PLEASE EXAMINE THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY. Standard-sized postcard in excellent condition for it age. Colors are bright and images very clear. The central image is intact and very clean. There are no creases or folds, and on light wear along the margins. Grey cast on the border frame appears to be original. Light tan cast appears to be age discoloration. Slightly darker spot stains at the margins on the front, do not involve the central image. ALL FLAWS ARE OBVIOUS IN THE PHOTOS.
